NEW YORK (Halbeeg News) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated the Organization’s support and solidarity with the country’s people and Government of Somalia in wake of two deadly blasts in the country’s southwestern town late last week.
Over 20 people and 50 other killed on Saturday when two suicide bombers stormed business premises in Baidoa town.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Shabaab fighters.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Guterres strongly condemning twin suicide attacks in the capital city of the southwest state, Baidoa.
He expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
“He is convinced that indiscriminate violence and attacks will not deter the Somali people in their pursuit of peace and stability,” added the statement.
Baidoa which is located about 220 kilometres (130 miles) west of capital Mogadishu fell in the hands of the government in 2012 when Somali forces backed by Ethiopian troops defeated Al-Shabaab fighters.
The blasts came on the eve of the one-year anniversary of a suicide bombing in Mogadishu that killed more than 500 people.
