NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – President Uhuru Kenyatta is mulling to send home his foreign minister Monica Juma over lack of commitment to defeat Somalia.
According to individuals privy to the development who spoke Nairobi based newspaper, The Star, Uhuru is not happy with the increasing shortcomings of the minister.
The sources said the president has been watching the manner in which the minister has handled the thorny Somalia maritime issue.
The paper also reports that the minister is not getting along with her Principal Secretary, Ambassador Macharia Kamau and that most of the time the two work at cross-purposes.
“Each one of them is doing what they want. Instead of pulling together in the interest of the country the two are busy doing their own things,” said a cabinet minister aware of the friction.
The development comes less than two weeks after Kenya failed its latest attempt to convince the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to delay Somalia-Kenya maritime border dispute case.
In a statement, the court informed both neighbouring countries that it can only delay the case not more than two months.
Court Registrar Philippe Gautier said the ICJ would open public hearings for the case on November 4, not September 9 as earlier scheduled.
Kenya had last Tuesday asked the court for twelve months to recruit a new legal team.
During the previous hearings, Kenya was being represented by Prof Payam Akhavan from the US, Prof Vaughan Lowe QC from the UK, Prof Alan Boyle (British), Prof Mathias Forteau (French), Mr. Karim Khan (British) and Ms. Amy Sanders (British).
