BOSASO ( Halbeeg News) – The officials from Puntland regional state of Somalia and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to expand Bosaso International Airport.
The move was announced following a visit by a delegation from Abu Dhabi in the red seaport city on Tuesday.
UAE officials who accompanied Puntland authorities to assess the facility confirmed the state of the expansion project in the forthcoming weeks.
Speaking to the media, Puntland state aviation minister, Hussein Osman Lugatur said once completed the Bosaso airport will be one of the biggest facilities in the region.
He said it will ease transport and boost the economy by creating new efficient business opportunities connecting the country to other parts of the world.
Dubai based port construction company DP World also signed an agreement to rebuild Bosaso seaport.
Somali Federal government rejected the agreement between Somaliland and DP World to build Berbera port over exchange for a military base.
Mogadishu and Abu Dhabi are not in good diplomatic terms since Somali security agencies nabbed Emirati plane transiting more than nine million USD at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
