ABU DHABI ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has temporarily suspended visas for Somali citizens entering its country.
Nationals from other 12 countries Muslim majority countries including Kenya, Iran, Turkey, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, and Afghanistan were also barred from entry for an unspecified period.
The decision is meant to curb the spread of coronavirus that has affected the favorite destination for traders and tourists across the globe.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is on high alert for Covid-19 where several countries mainly in Europe imposed a second lockdown to curb the spread.
The Somali government has reported 150 cases in the past two weeks, and according to health authorities the number might increase and there is a need for more precautions.
Somali business has heavily invested in UAE especially after the breakout of the civil war in the country in the early 1990s.
The business between Mogadishu and Abu Dhabi has significantly increased in the past years mainly in the livestock and electronic sector following the return of peace and calm in the strategic Horn of the African nation.
