Puntland security officials at Bossaso Airport have intercepted luggage and boxes allegedly wanted to be taken out of the country after United Arab Emirates (UAE) dispatched a plane to carry the training equipment and arms initially distributed to UAE trained forces.
UAE has taken decision to withdraw its diplomats and workers from Somalia after its relations with Somalia deteriorated over the seizure of 9.6 million USD at Mogadishu Airport.
The officials at Bosasso airport rejected the workers of the Emirati to load the consignment onto the plane leading the UAE officials in state to lodge complain at the office of President, Abdiweli Ali Gas.
According to Sources, President Gaas held talks with the Emirati workers over the stand-off.
Mr. Gaas reportedly rejected the consignment to be loaded onto the aircraft and directed UAE officials and their workers to leave the state.
Reliable sources said UAE government wanted to load the plane with weapons and other equipment allocated to train Puntland forces after it failed to convince Puntland officials to contradict Somali government’s statement on the cancellation of the military cooperation with Dubai government.
The plane has taken off from Bosaso airport with the workers and the training officers, sources confirmed.
The Arabian Peninsula nation has several trainers and officials in Puntland who were coaching the training of Puntland Marine Force.
