The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday delivered aid assistance to victims in the breakaway Somaliland barely two days after Tropical Cyclone Sagar hit the region.
Heavy rains and floods caused by Sagar which built up in Yemen’s Socotra Island killed 25 people and wounded over 15 others.
Local authorities said 28 others are still missing after their houses were washed away by the heavy floods.
The donation which comprises of food and medicine was in two Emirati choppers dispatched early Tuesday.
According to reports, the planes landed at Igal international Airport as a stopover before proceeding to different flood-hit areas.
Abdirahman Sayli’i, the deputy President of Somaliland and several officials have ferried the aid to areas.
Sayli’i who spoke during the distribution of the aid has called on other aid agencies to follow suit.
“I urge other agencies and well wisher to support these people who affected by the disaster,” he appealed.
