ABU DHABI ( Halbeeg News) – Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU to strengthen bilateral defense and military cooperation.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Ethiopia’s Defence Minister Lemma Megersa and Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, UAE’s Minister of State for Defense Affairs, on the sidelines of ongoing 16th Dubai Airshow.
According to Ethiopian National News Agency (FANA) Defense Minister, Lemma on the occasion affirmed his country’s interest in advancing Ethiopia-Emirati defense cooperation in order to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
On his part, UAE State Minister for Defense, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi underscored Abu Dhabi’s commitment to consolidating partnerships and cooperation with its international partners.
Ethiopia which has one of the largest militaries in terms of manpower is facing threat from another military power, Egypt over a dispute on the ongoing construction of a dam along the river Nile for the generation of electricity.
The United States is mediating the two sides on possible agreement on the shared water resource.
