The President of United States of America (USA), Donald Trump has sent a message of condolence to the family of U.S. special force soldier who was killed in Somalia.
Al-Shabaab fighters killed one U.S. soldiers and wounded four others in an evening attack on a military base jointly manned by U.S. forces and Somali Army.
Trump said he was saddened by the loss of the lives of the soldiers who gave their lives for the U.S.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of our serviceman who was killed and his fellow servicemen who were wounded in Somalia [sic]. They are truly all HEROES,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The US military says combined Somali National Security Forces, Kenyan Defense Force and U.S. forces came under mortar and small-arms fire.
“During an operation June 8, 2018, in Jubaland, Somalia, one U.S. Special Operations member was killed and four U.S. service members and one partner force was wounded as the result of an enemy attack,” U.S. Africa Command (Africom) said in a statement.
Al-Shabaab through a statement posted on its affiliate media confirmed the attack saying its fighters killed one U.S. military soldier in an attack which took place in Bar-Sanguuni village which is located 45km north of Kismayo town.
“Our mujahedeen raided base manned by U.S. forces in Bar-Sanguuni village. The attack happened as it was planned, as for now, the Mujahideen understand that one U.S. soldier was killed and four others wounded in the attack,” the statement reads in part.
