Jowhar, (Halbeeg News) – Two suspects linked to an attack that claimed the lives of seven government soldiers in Middle Shabelle region have been arrested in a joint operation conducted by Somali National Army (SNA) and Hirshabelle forces.
Middle Shabelle Governor Mohamud Mohamed Nuur told journalists that the operation which targeted Ceel Baraf is still ongoing to capture the remaining fugitives.
“We have apprehended two individuals involved in the killing of our national soldiers, who were ambushed while gathering in the area. We are actively pursuing the others, and they will be brought to justice,” said the governor.
The Governor further stated that some local elders including Ceel Beraf village head has been detained for questioning over alleged negligence that led to the attack adding that calm has been restored in the area.
“We are investigating thoroughly and working closely with the federal government to ensure justice is served. I urge the families of the victims and the Somali public to remain patient as we continue our efforts,” added the governor.
The seven soldiers, part of the Somali National Army, were reportedly ambushed and killed by armed militants while traveling on leave from their base in Xawaadley.
According to local sources, the militants filmed the soldiers after detaining them and subsequently carried out the executions.
The soldiers, unarmed due to their leave status, had left their weapons at the base.
Governor Mohamud reassured the public that those responsible for the heinous act would face justice and emphasized the commitment of both the federal and HirShabelle administrations to addressing the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and I want to assure everyone, especially the families of the slain soldiers, that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” he concluded.
