MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia will today kick off elections of parliament in Mogadishu with the election of the first two members of the Northern Regions of Somaliland to Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament.
The Northern Region Electoral Commission has announced that four candidates will be running to grab the seats in an election will be held at the General Kahiye Police Academy.
The hopefuls will be selected by 101 delegates drawn from people hailing from northern Somalia.
The first seat will be contested by Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Gulaid and Mushtaq Ibrahim Yusuf.
The second seat will be contested by Bihi Iman Ige, who had served last parliament and another candidate.
The election whose security tightened will be overseen by observers, the Federal Electoral Commission members, and the Dispute Resolution Committee.
