BELEDWEYNE ( HALBEEG NEWS) – Two Somali police officers were killed and three other people including two officers wounded following IED blast at the entrance of Laqanyo stadium in Beledweyne on Tuesday.
Several other people who were spectators at an ongoing football tournament escaped unhurt.
According to police officials, the explosive device was planted at the entrance to cause mayhem and disrupt ongoing sporting activity in the agricultural city.
“The terrorist planted the explosives to harm the innocent civilians and challenge integration through sports, two officers lost their lives while two others were wounded, we are ready to sacrifice our life for the safety of our people.” Said, Inspector Dhaqane Abdullahi Wehliye from Beledweyne police station.
The new mayor of Beledweyen Nadar Tabah Moalim launched a sports tournament last week aimed at boosting the talent of young soccer players in the region.
