NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Two prisoners were killed and four other people including two security officers were wounded following an armed al-Shabaab militant attack at a police post on Wednesday.
According to Kenya Police Spokesman Charles Owino, the attackers stormed the station after two members of the terrorist group were arrested.
Owino said officers on guard responded adding that the fighters killed their colleagues in detention.
The Kenya Defence Forces soldiers in a nearby camp were deployed in the area for reinforcement.
The incident comes two weeks after an IED attack in the border killed more than 11 GSU officers near Garissa.
Al-Shabaab has carried out a wave of attacks across the border in North Eastern Kenya targeting security agencies since Kenyan military incursion into Somalia in October 2011.
The attack on Westgate shopping mall and El Ade attack in 2013 and 2016 respectfully were the most deadly attacks carried out by the group.
