MANDERA (Halbeeg News) – Kenya police have arrested two suspected al-shabaab informants in Mandera town, near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
Rono Bunei, Northeastern police who spoke the media said the two were nabbed by the security officials during security operation in Mandera town.
“The two are being interrogated and will be charged in court once we are through with investigations. They were arrested this week by security officers while roaming around the police station and other government offices in Mandera town,” said Bunei.
Bunei said they believe the two suspects are active members in the al-Shabaab information gathering network in the region.
The arrest of the two suspects comes three days after al-Shabaab militants attacked an ambulance ferrying a pregnant woman to hospital and killed her husband in Mandera County.
According to the police, the ambulance was on the way to Elwak Referral Hospital when it came under attack by gunmen.
Al-Shabaab first hit the vehicle using an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) which set fire on the ambulance.
The husband of the expectant mother died in the attack while two others including the nurse and driver on board were injured in the incident.
