JALALAQSI (Halbeeg News) – Two al-Shabaab fighters have been killed after brief clash with Somali police in central Somalia.
According to the police officials in Jalalaqsi town, several suspected al-Shabaab fighters have stormed the town’s police station last night, prompting clashes with the law enforcers.
The police said they recovered AK 47 riffles and the bodies of the two assailants.
No police and civilian casualties were reported.
In separate attack, unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade bomb at the residential house of the town’s mayor.
Police also confirmed the bomb cause no casualties.
According to sources, Jalalaqsi town mayor, Mohamed Nur was not in house during the attack.
Somali forces have this morning started to operations to pursue the preparators and their sympathisers.
Al-Shabaab have been carrying out raids and assassinations for the last decade since the group lost much of the territories under their control.
The group lost many towns in South and central Somalia following heavy clashes with Somali military backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
