MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A television journalist was among over a dozen people killed in two car bomb blasts on Saturday morning in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The city has been shaken by the two explosions caused by the cars packed with explosives near Somali national theatre.
The first car bomb hit a checkpoint manned by Somali security forces followed by another one which took place.
Photos and videos from the scene of the second explosion show the destruction caused by the blast.
According to sources, Awil Dahir Salad who was working for Universal TV, a Somali television based in the UK was killed along three others crew of the station.
Reports say the journalist and the three others crew of the station passing nearby when the suicide car bomb hit the checkpoint.
A police officer who spoke to the media said the first suicide car bomb at the checkpoint killed over eight people mostly security officers. Over 10 others were injured.
The Somali government has not yet commented on the blasts which shattered the month-long calm in the city and the casualties caused by the explosions.
There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast though Al-Shabaab previously carried out deadly bombings in the city.
