MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Turkish private entrepreneurs will have branches to Somalia to rump up their trade with the Horn of African Nation.
The Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD) based in Turkey has announced that it has opened an office in Somalia as part of its drive to expand into Africa.
The head of MUSIAD, Ibrahim Uyar said the association plans to increase investments in Somalia and boost trade ties with Somali business people.
MUSIAD has already said 2018 will be the “year of Africa.”
“We aim to increase our current economic and trade ties with Somalia, which we always see as a sister country,” he said.
Uyar said that whatever happens, Turkey will continue to stand with the people of the Horn of Africa nation.
He added that he believes the trade volume between the countries will shortly reach $200 million.
MUSIAD now has 209 contact points in 79 countries, according to the association.
Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association is a non-governmental organization consisting mostly of small and medium-sized enterprises, founded by a group of Turkish businessmen on May 5, 1990.
Since its economic recovery in the mid-2000s, Turkey has made systematic efforts to assert itself as a dominant player in Africa. It declared 2005 the Year of Africa.
This focus on Africa has seen Turkey increase its presence there to 35 countries by 2018 up 46 from 15 a decade ago.
Turkish intervention in Africa increased largely in the areas of humanitarian assistance, development aid, economic co-operation and mediation of political stalemates across Africa.
