MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Turkish defense minister, Hulusi Akar is expected to arrive in Mogadishu in Mogadishu a day after he met Sudanese president in Khartoum.
Preparation to welcome the Turkish delegation led by Mr. Akar is underway at Adan Adde Airport in Mogadishu.
Turkish minister is expected to meet with his Somali counterpart on the military on cooperation, training, security and the relations between the two countries.
Turkey and Somalia have long enjoyed friendly relations, as Turkey has invested in many areas to help modernize Mogadishu, the capital of the Horn of Africa country.
Last year, Turkey opened its largest military training academy abroad in Somalia.
Located south of Mogadishu, the training facility took some two years to build.
The facility spans over 4 square kilometers (1.54 square miles) and can train more than 1,500 troops at a time, according to the Somali government.
Akar’s trip to Somalia comes barely a day after he signed a deal on military cooperation with his counterpart Sudan.
Sudan and Turkey agreed to jointly work on training, counter-terrorism, and security.
