Somalia is carrying out initiatives to secure monitoring role for Turkey which has been trying long time to pacify both Somalia and Somaliland to solve their internal differences mutually, Halbeeg authoritatively revealed.
During his tour to Mogadishu last month, Turkish deputy prime minister, Hakan Çavuşoğlu said Turkey is committed to mediate Somalia and Somaliland.
According to statement seen by Halbeeg, Çavuşoğlu who held talks with Somali President, Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo has expressed his country’s displeasure at being excluded from the negotiations between the leaders of Somalia and Somaliland.
Despite feeling being excluded, Turkey has welcomed the latest achievements by the sides to resume the negotiations.
The statement said that Somali president is aiming at convincing the other side to allocate monitoring role Turkey.
“The Somalia and Somaliland presidents [who] faced by strong opposition within their respective countries are hoping to exploit the talks to domestic ends,” the statement reads in part.
The statement comes amid the Presidents of Somalia and Somaliland, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Muse Bihi are scheduled to meet in Djibouti ahead of the Somalia-Somaliland talks which are expected to resume.
The talks between the two leaders will be aimed at devising dialogue channels that could lead the sides to reach mutual understanding.
It is now three times since Somalia and Somaliland talks brokered by Turkey had collapsed with no tangible progress reached following intransigence by the sides.
