MOGADISHU (Halbeeg)- Turkish government has condemned Saturday’s deadly twin bomb blasts in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The attacks which were executed by suicide bombers killed at least six people and left behind a trail of destruction.
In a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Turkey said the attacks were meant to frustrate efforts by Somali government and it’s international partners to restore peace in the Horn of the African nation.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that have taken place in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu…”
“The timing of the terror attacks — prior to the Somalia Partnership Forum to be held on July 16-17 in Brussels, where recent reforms in the country will be evaluated — aims at undermining the efforts of the Somalia Federal Government and the international community in bringing stability to Somalia,” it added.
The Turkish government pledged that it will continue supporting the Somali government and its people.
“Turkey will continue extending its full support to brotherly Somalia, as it has done up until now, in order to attain an environment of peace, tranquillity and development in the country,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the government of Qatar has also strongly condemned the attack near the presidential palace, which caused deaths and injuries.
Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm stance rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of their motives and reasons.
The ministry also affirmed its full solidarity with the Somali government in all measures taken to maintain security and stability.
The statement extended the condolences of Qatar to the victims’ families, the government and the people of Somalia, wishing the injured speedy recovery.
The six people who were killed — including five Al-Shabab attackers and civilian.
Several other people were reportedly wounded when a double car bomb blast rocked Mogadishu.
Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that its fighters had attacked the presidential palace and SYL Hotel.
Saturday’s attack comes a week after Al-Shabab attacked Somalia’s Interior Ministry building in Mogadishu, killing at least 16 people, including two ministry officials.
