ADDIS ABABA ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Ethiopian government has said several Tigray forces have surrendered to authorities in the Afar region responding to earlier calls before ultimatum issues expired.
“Using the government’s 72-hour period, a large number of Tigray militia and special forces are surrendering. Many have surrendered through the Afar region, and the remaining forces are surrendering peacefully.” State of emergency Fact Check page confirmed.
In a statement, the authorities thanked those forces it described as responding to the calls by the government agencies.
It further stated that those still under the TPLF captivity and are unable to surrender to disarm and refrain from exploitations by the regional forces fighting the National Defense Forces.
Addis Ababa has also called upon the international media entities and human rights groups covering the conflict in the Tigray region to verify their information saying rebels have infiltrated refugees fleeing to Sudan to spread propaganda.
“We have received credible intelligence that TPLF operatives have infiltrated refugees fleeing into Sudan to carry out missions of disinformation. We caution media entities and international organizations to thoroughly investigate & verify the information they receive.”
