Mogadishu (Halbeeg)- At least three people have been killed and three others sustained injuries after motor shell rounds landed at residential areas near the main base of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Halane in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The attack coincides with the ceremonies of the Independence Day of the country’s southern regions which are taking place in the city.
Local residents in Wadajir district said the motor shells hit houses in Wadajir District.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity told Halbeeg News that unknown people fired three rounds of motor shells on residential houses.
“We heard simultaneous heavy explosions they thought they were bombs but we later learnt they were motor shells, three residents died and three injured in the attack,” the witness.
Wadajir local authorities blamed the incident on Al-Shabab which has been struggling to overthrow Somali government since 2007.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
