MANDERA ( Halbeeg News) – At least three people have been injured in a blast caused by Improvised Explosive Device near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
The explosion happened on Friday in Dhamasa after forklift ran over an improvised explosive device.
County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom who confirmed the incident said the three are nursing light injuries at the hospital.
“The IED did not cause massive destruction and casualties, two workers and a driver sustained slight injuries,” he said.
The commissioner accused al-Shabaab of burying the IED near the construction site.
No group the responsibility for the explosion.
Kenya started constructing security wall along the Somalia-Kenya border in 2015 after Al-Shabab fighters attacked the border towns severally and killed over 200 people.
Al-Shabaab fighters had been carrying out attacks inside Kenya since 2011 when Kenya dispatched its troops to fight al-Shabaab in Somalia.
Kenya troops estimated to be more than 4,000 are currently working under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)
