MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali security forces have arrested three elders who were accused of having links with al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
The elders, Sugal Warsame Ali, Aliyare ahmed Ali and Omar Mohamed Jimcaale have recently travelled to Harardhere town where they signed an agreement with the group.
Speaking to the media before they were arrested, the elders said their agreement with al-Shabaab secured the release of 69 hostages from al-Shabaab.
The commander of SNA’s 21 division, Gen. Haysan Jami’i said the elders will be transferred to Dhusamareb town where they will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of an investigation into the cases.
The government earlier vowed that it will prosecute al-Shabaab sympathisers and those suspected of having links with the group.
In recent months, Somali forces backed by clan militias recaptured towns and villages in central Somalia following clashes with al-Shabaab fighters
