Three consecutive House sessions to debate on the controversial no confidence motion against lower house speaker Jawari have been put off following Presidential and AMISOM interventions to quell the looming stand-off.
The latest House sitting which was supposed to take place today was called off in request of President, Mohamed Abdullahi amid reports that the President has agreed to to resolvein person the mounting tensions that created sharp division between the members of the Parliament.
Sources say President Farmajo intervened the situation for the second time following covert phone conversation with the United States (U.S.) Charge d’affaires to Somalia, Martin Dale.
The U.S. official reportedly cautioned against ousting the Speaker through chaos and unconstitutional manner.
Mr. Dale urged the President to resolve the matter internally and if need be to unseat the Speaker, to do it through secret ballot in a peaceful House session which requires 184 MPs to vote against him.
According to the sources, the President was asked to convince speaker Jawari to resign before taking the matter to Parliament.
Halbeeg News took the initiative to confirm the matter with entrounge but has not successfully reached due to the sensitivity of the situation.
Last week, President Farmajo held talks with the speaker in an effort to convince him to solve the matter in peaceful means.
Four-days long meeting with Jawari ended fruitless on Tuesday, leading the speaker to spill the beans and accused the President of fueling the already messy political situation.
The following day, the Lawmakers were scheduled to debate on the fate of the motion against Jawari but were reportedly locked out of the parliament, a move the first deputy Speaker said was engineered by Jawari.
Some of the lawmakers accused speaker Jawari of taking over the parliament through soldiers loyal to him.
