WAIYE ( Halbeeg News) – At least three children have drawn and over one hundred livestock were swept following heavy flood flushes in northeastern Somalia.
Torrential rains continued to pummel many parts of Bari and Sanaag regions in Somalia.
Three children from the same family died after their home was swept away by floods in a village in the outskirts of Waiye district.
The tragedy occurred in Gurane village just 25km away Waiye town.
Speaking to the media, the father of the children, Ismail Abdi Isse said the floods washed the children and 147 goats following hours of heavy rains.
He pointed out that the whole village has been inundated with floods caused hours of rains.
“The rains started on Wednesday night when it kept increasing until a nearby stream broke its banks leading heavy floods that swept everything, three of my four children died after the house was swept,” said Ismail.
Puntland state authorities have dispatched fact-finding committee to assess the destruction and losses caused by the rains.
Waiye district commissioner, Isack Ahmed Hassan who was leading the delegation confirmed the death saying, the bodies were retrieved and buried the following day in the town.
There had been some unverified reports that thousands of livestock perished but we are confirming, for now, we confirmed that three children had been swept away by the floods,” he said.
With heavy rains expected to intensify in the coming days and flash floods already experienced in some areas.
