The newly appointed chief justice has Baashe Yusuf Ahmed has take office in a well organized ceremony held in Mogadishu on Sunday.
The minister for justice of federal government, attorney general, the former head of the Supreme Court and other officials attended the handover ceremony.
Speaking during the event, the former chief of Supreme Court, Ibrahim Idle Suleiman said that he has made tangible changes in the sector during his reign.
On the other Mr. Suleiman he blamed the federal government of Somalia of failing to implement the decisions of the Supreme Court.
The new chief justice, Bashe Yusuf Ahmed who also assumed office today thanked the former chief for his well done job.
Bashe underlined that he and president Farmajo agreed to revamp the justice sector so as to come up with proper functioning system that provides good services to the citizens.
“Our promise is to is to make changes on the justice sector, the first thing is to form the judicial service commission” said Bashe.
Late last month, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo sacked the country’s Chief Justice Hassan Ibrahim Idle Suleiman.
In a written statement, president Farmajo said the resolution was part of a broader plan to give a face-lift to the justice sector.
Suleiman has held the position since May 2016.
