MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)- The New Central Bank of Somalia Governor, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi has officially taken office on Sunday.
The Minister for Finance, Abdirahman Duale Beyle, the auditor general, Mohamed Ali Afgoye and former governor, Bashir Isse Ali were present during ceremony held at the headquarters of Central Bank of Somalia in Mogadishu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Somali Finance Minister, Duale pledged to work with hand in hand with the new Central Bank Governor saying both the ministry and the financial institutions will jointly focus on reforming the economic development of the country.
The head of the Bank who is the chief executive officer of the CBS will be responsible for the management of the bank under the general direction of the Board of Directors.
The Governor also serves as the Chair of the Board and is the principal representative of the CBS in its relations with the Federal Government of Somalia, other public entities, and bodies and international financial institutions.
The new governor is financial management and banking expert and he has been working for the last two years as a senior economic policy adviser to the office of the Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire for the previous two years as an advisor.
The new governor takes to office amid Somalia plans to bring new currency for the first time in three decades since the fall of the central government led by late Mohammed Siyad Barre.
