MOGADISHU(Halbeeg-News)-The Federal Republic of Somalia and State of Eritrea have agreed to strengthen diplomatic, trade and investment cooperation between the two states. President Abdullahi Farmajo and his counterpart Esias Afwerki have affirmed the two countries committed to the Horn of Africa cooperation during joint press statement in Mogadishu on Friday.
“The two leaders held bilateral discussions at Villa Somalia and agreed to strengthen the two nations historical relations through further cooperation in all areas of mutual benefit including trade, investment and people to people relations.” the statement read in part.
The Eritrean President showed his government’s full support for the rebuilding of Somali armed forces saying Asmara is aware the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to tackling the modern day risk of terrorism.
“President Isaias welcomes and supports the Somali government’s endeavour in establishing Somali led security institutions that can provide the peace and security that the people of Somalia deserve, ” the statement reads further.
The leaders agreed to come up with common solutions to tackle and address the obstacles in the region.
“The two leaders emphasised that there are many common challenges ahead for which they will seek a common solution. Furthermore, they agreed to consolidate their mutual solidarity and support in addressing challenges that their nations face individually and collectively,” the statement said.
The two leaders noted that effective regional cooperation is crucial for overcoming the common obstacles of insecurity, terrorism, poverty and environmental degradation facing the region.
