MOGADISHU (Halbeeg)- The judges of Benadir regional court and court of appeal Muse Moalim Mohamed and Abshir Omar Abdullahi respectively have on Thursday assumed offices in a well organized handover ceremony held at the headquarters of Benadir regional court in Mogadishu.
The handover ceremony was attended by Somalia’s chief justice, Bashe Yusuf, attorney general Ahmed Ali Dahir, the commanders of police and custodial corps, judges and other leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony, the chief justice praised the tremendous job done by the outgoing judges and welcomed the new judges to their respective offices.
“I am happy to preside over this important handover ceremony of the outgoing and new judges of Benadir regional court and court of appeal. First we have to appreciate the good job done by the former judges and see them off in a good manner” said the chief justice.
He called on the judges and the related agencies to work hand in hand so as to come up with tangible judicial system and provide fair judicial service to the common people.
“I appeal to the judges and other related agencies that we have to make concrete changes in the judiciary, to reach to these changes we have to collaborate. We would like to make real changes in judicial service” he added.
On his side, Somalia’s attorney general, Ahmed Ali Dahir welcomed the new judges and pledged that his office will work closely with the judges to allow them to perform their duties amicably.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has dismissed the judges of Benadir regional court and court of appeal Court as part of judicial reform according to a statement from his Office
Both the dismissed judges Salah Sheikh and Muse Moalim who served the office for more than two years were dismissed as a part of Mr Farmajo’s plan for real judicial reform.
Since taking office last February, President Farmajo has promised to initiate drastic changes to many of Somalia’s vital institutions.
