The members of the international community have unequivocally condemned al-Shabaab car bomb attack in the capital, Mogadishu on Thursday.
The United Nations security council, the African Union and the United States have issued separate statements in condemnations of the attack that claimed lives of at least 30 people and wounded more than 80.
UN Security Council President, François Delattre strongly condemned the attack praising the swift response of the Somali security agencies while sending condolences to the victims.
“The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of Somalia. The members of the Security Council wished a speedy recovery to those injured.” Said part of the press statement.
On the other hand, The United States embassy in Mogadishu said in a press statement such attacks are only meant to prevent the progress made towards peace and development in recent years.
“The United States affirms its commitment to the people and government of Somalia and assist international collective efforts to build a stronger and prosperous Somalia Somalia that offers a brighter future for its people.”
On his part, The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, expressed solidarity with the federal government of Somalia.
“The AU Special Representative expresses solidarity with the federal government of Somalia and sends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He prays for the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries.”
