The government of Egypt has on Friday donated three tones of assorted medical supplies to Somali government, officials confirmed.
Director of Somalia’s ministry of Health, Abdullahi Hirsi who spoke at the handover ceremony of the consignment which took place in Mogadishu had commended the government of Egypt for its commitment to support Somalia.
“We appreciate the efforts of the government of Egypt to support and withstand with Somalia. Today, the government of Egypt has donated these assorted medical supplies to our government” said Hirsi.
He said that the medicine will be distributed to main hospitals in the country.
For his part, Egypt’s ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed Shahid said his government will continue giving support to Somalia.
“We are here to support Somalia in many areas including health, the rebuilding process of the country. People of Egypt and Somalia are brothers who have been collaborating for centuries,” said Shahid.
In October last year, when Mogadishu was rocked by the deadly truck bombing which claimed over 500 people and wounded more than 300 others, the government of Egypt sent a plane carrying five tones medical donation to Somalia.
The North African country is also among the few Arab countries that have re-opened the embassies in Somali capital, Mogadishu.
