MANDERA (Halbeeg News)- The driver of the abducted Cuban doctors in Mandera last week, Issack Ibrein Robow was charged with conspiracy.
Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) will hold the driver for a period of 15 days to complete their investigations.
He was arrested on Friday last week at Mandera Town and flown to Nairobi on Sunday for investigations.
Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe granted the application by the prosecution after the suspect was arraigned in court.
“The suspect is being interviewed and his phone has been subjected to data analysis to establish whom he has been talking to both in Kenya and outside the country,” the court said.
The investigations will seek to establish whether the suspect committed an offense of conspiracy to commit terrorism contrary to section 23(2) of the prevention of terrorism law which attracts a sentence of 20 years.
The investigating team said they require more time to ascertain several details from his mobile phone and subject the same to forensic analysis before deciding to prefer charges.
The two Cuban specialist doctors, Assel Herrera Corea, a general physician and his colleague Landy Rodríguez Hernández a surgeon, were being driven by the suspect to Mandera Referral Hospital using a government vehicle, according to police investigations before their abduction by gunmen who killed one of their security guards.
