GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – Hundreds of rival Puntland forces have closed major roads leading to the government institutions in Garowe town following the massing up of forces opposed to the planned review of the constitution by President Abdullahi Deni’s administration.
According to sources and witnesses, troops allied to opposition figures were seen on some streets and near the parliament building.
The forces are reportedly opposed to plans to review the constitution which President Deni has been accused of seeking to extend his stay in office through the process. His term will lapse on January 9 after five years reign.
In response, Puntland state government deployed forces to Garowe streets, including key roads to the parliament, ministries, and
presidency. According to the local media, the soldiers who were deployed are from Puntland Maritime Police Force trained who were equipped by the United Arab Emirates.
