At least ten schools in Beledweyne have called for exam postponement following trail destruction left by floods after River Shabelle breached its banks in Beledweyne.
Some buildings in the schools developed cracks on the walls exposing students to danger as other were submerged.
Ahmed Dakane, the chairperson of Beledweyne Private Schools Association who spoke to the media said the principals of ten school had submitted proposals urging to call off the examinations.
“We have received over ten proposals from different schools. The head teachers have said that their schools could not do the exams due to the effect of the recent floods,” Dakane said.
The chairman pointed out the floods by the rains affected at least 10,000 students who were supposed to sit for their final examinations.
“The students are candidates who were scheduled to sit for their final examinations this week but their schools were damaged by the heavy floods splashed by the river,” he noted.
The different education umbrellas have scheduled the examinations of Beledweyne schools to take place today.

President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo who visited Beledweyne town this week described the situation as a national disaster and appealed for international assistance to deal with humanitarian crisis.
