BAIDOA (Halbeeg News) – The contentious issues that hampered the implementation of 17-September agreement over electoral process have been resolved following two-day conference in southwest Somalia, FGS-FMS technical committee said.
In a statement, 14-member technical committee comprised of federal and regional government representative said the sides agreed on ways resolve Gedo, Somaliland and electoral committee issues, a breakthrough that paves way for a broader talks between the federal government and its regional member states in a National Consultative Conference.
The statement did further specify how the issues that led the collapse of Dhusamareb-IV were resolved.
The technical committee proposed the leaders of Federal and regional governments meet on 18th February to officially sign the agreement on election impasse resolution.
The committee, making up of representatives from the federal government, regional governments and the Benadir region have been holding talks in Baidoa, 250 km southwest of Somalia’s capital.
Following the disagreement over venue of national conference proposed by President Farmajo, Somalia’s Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble had appointed committee chaired by Somalia’s constitution minister, Salah Ahmed Jama.
Both leaders of the federal and regional government have not commented on the new development.
