MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Police have gunned down a suspected criminal in Hodan district of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, authorities confirmed.
The officials of law enforcement agency on Friday trailed two suspected gangsters within Teleh area.
Acting on a tip-off about the two armed gangsters sighted at the area in Hodan district, police confronted the suspects who were allegedly robbing locals.
According to the residents in the area, following brief gunfire exchange, the police manage to shoot one them dead.
Speaking at a press conference, Somali police deputy chief, Zakiya Hussein Ahmed confirming the incident said the officials confronted the suspects before successfully eliminating one of them at the scene.
According to the police boss, the officers had trailed the two within Hodan district before ordering them to surrender.
The suspects instead shot back at police prompting a shootout.
“The police forces launch operation Teleh Division of Hodan district following tip-off by the public, This resulted to a shootout leading to one of the gang members being killed on the spot,” she said.
The police boss also confirmed the death of a civilian and injury of a police officer.
“During the operation, a police officer was injured and a civilian died in the during the shootout,” she stated.
She noted that the accomplice of the slain gangster escaped saying the police are hunting him down.
