Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – Seven Somali National Army soldiers were sentenced Tuesday by the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces in Mogadishu for murder, disrupting security, and trespassing on government land.
The soldiers were charged for the offenses committed in the Lower Shabelle region of the South West Regional Government, which led to the death of one person identified as Abdullahi Mohamed Ibrahim during a public property dispute.
The soldiers involved in the case were identified as; Mahdi Colaad Hirey, Noor Dahir Hersi
, Hassan Abdulle Samatar, Mohamed Khalif Hussein, Abdiqani Ali Haji, and Nur Abdi Mohamed, Ahmed Hassan Mohamed.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces issued the ruling as follows; Mahdi Colaad Hirey and Noor Dahir Hersi were ordered to pay 100 camels as “Diya” (blood compensation) to the family of the victim, Abdullahi Mohamed Ibrahim. Both soldiers were also sentenced to five years in military prison.
Hassan Abdulle Samatar on his part was sentenced to seven years in military prison for his role in the conflict while Mohamed Khalif Hussein, Abdiqani Ali Haji, Nur Abdi Mohamed, and Ahmed Hassan Mohamed were each sentenced to three years in military prison for their involvement.
Brigadier General Liban Ali Yarow, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces, stated that the verdict was reached after careful consideration of the evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
He added that the court’s decision was based on a thorough investigation and a commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.
