At least three soldiers have been killed and several others injured on Friday after a suicide bomber rammed car into Somali military base at Afgooye town.
A military official who spoke to the media confirmed the attack saying suspected Al-shabab suicide bomber driving a car laden with explosives tried to force his way through a checkpoint in the camp before the soldiers at gate opened fire at him.
“The car exploded at the gate, three soldiers who were at gate died and several others were wounded,” the officer said.
Al-shabab claimed responsibility of the attack
The group’s military spokesman, Abdiaziz Abu Musab who to spoke to Reuters said “There are many casualties. We shall give details later.”
Afgooye town is located 30km Northwest of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The attack comes just a day after Al-shabab detonated a car bomb at a checkpoint in the outskirt of Somali capital.
