KHARTOUM (Halbeeg News) – Sudan will be dispatching a delegation to the United States to convince the US government to remove Sudan from its terror list.
In a televised interview, Sudan’s new ruler Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan
said delegates would hold talks with the US over North East Africa nation’s aim to be cleared from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
According to al-Burhan, the Sudanese officials will set off to Washington within the next days.
“We want to have good relations with other parts of the world, and we are planning to send a delegation to the United States this week or next week for discussions over US sanctions,” he said.
The ruler pledged to improve Sudan relationships with the rest of the world through negotiation.
Al-Burhan took the leadership position last week after his predecessor, General Awad Ibn Ouf, resigned less than 24 hours after becoming military council chief.
In 1993, the U.S. government listed Sudan as a state sponsoring of terrorists.
US also accused the then President Omar al-Bashir’s government of taking part efforts to strengthen terror groups.
In 2017, Sudan had succeeded to convince the United States to lift its 20-year-old trade embargo imposed on Sudan.
