Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – The Interim leader of the self-declared regional state of Khatumo, Abdikhadir Ahmed Firdhiye has declared that they will not be part of Puntland state, saying his people are ready to form their own state.
Speaking at Heritage Forum in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, Firdhiye said Las-Anod and other towns in Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC) region will not take part in the anticipated elections.
The leader noted that traditional elders of the three region unanimously agreed to secede from Puntland state and establish a new state for the people of these regions.
Fardhiye emphasised that the individuals holding positions in other regional states will not represent people of SSC.
“We are planning to form our regional state administration which will govern people in Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions. Therefore, we are calling upon people from these regions to part in the process,” he said. “Whoever decides to be part of other regional states have choice to represent himself but not people of SSC.”
Somaliland and Puntland authorities have not yet commented on the remarks of Firdhiye.
The Somaliland parliament speaker hails from Las-Anod while the deputy leader of Puntland state is from SSC regions.
Both Somaliland and Puntland have longer been at loggerheads over the ownership of these three regions.
