LAS_ANOD (Halbeeg News) – Abdulkhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) has been selected as head of the SSC-Khatumo following a meeting between SSC Committee governing the regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn, known as Khatumo in Somalia.
Two candidates namely Abdukhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) and Mohamed Ismail Bulale have contested for chairmanship of SSC.
Aw-Ali won as the elected Chairman of the Executive Council of SSC after securing 30 out of 45 votes cast while his opponent, Bulale, received 15 votes in the election. The result was announced by the Chairman of the Committee of SSC, Jama Yassin.
The SSC Committee, which acts as a parliamentary body, represents the different communities living in Sool, Ayn and parts of Sanaag. The selection of committee members was approved by traditional elders. Notably, Jama Yasin has just been elected Chairman of the Central Committee of the State Securities Commission.
The newly elected Chairman of the Executive Council, Aw-Ali, appeared at the polling place in military fatigue and a hat decorated with the Somali flag.
The Council’s decision signifies a shift towards the establishment of independent administrative bodies in the Sool and Ayn regions, separate from the administration of Puntland and Somaliland states.
Aw-Ali is expected to form his executive board and begin the important work of managing the SSC. The region awaits new council initiatives and policies as they attempt to address the unique challenges and opportunities that await them.
