MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) -The newly elected president of Southwest state, Abdulaziz Hassan Mohamed has chaired his first regional cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The meeting which focused on the security of the state also discussed the situation of the administration following a violent protest that rocked Baidoa town after the arrest of former deputy Al-Shabaab leader, Mukhtar Robow Mansour.
Thirteen people were reported to have been killed and scores others were wounded after a street battle between security agencies and protesters in December last year.
Southwest minister for security minister, Hassan Elay presented detailed the security report before and after the regional presidential elections that occurred on 19th December.
‘’The minister for security presented the general security situation of the state especially in the last 24 hours which was calm and details of security operation by the security forces against armed group Alshabaab in Goof Gadud village [prompted fierce fighting with Al-Shabaab] inflicted heavy casualties on a group.” Information minister, Ugas Hassan Abdi told reporters.
On his part, the president has agreed to establish a committee of inquiry to investigate the incident of December which led to the loss of lives after the arrest of Robow.
Mohamed has called on the residents of the state to closely cooperate with his new administration saying his office is open to anyone with ideas to move the state forward.
