The security agencies and the state leaders held a day-long meeting to discuss plans to ensure the state remains secure before and after the presidential election.
The closed-door meeting brought together the police commissioner, head of the state’s spy agency and officials from the military and AMISOM officials.
The main issues on the agenda were scaling up security operations while ensuring the activities of the different security agencies are well coordinated throughout the electioneering period.
Addressing the officials, Mr. Sheikhuna directed the officials from the military, police, intelligence, and AMISOM to be vigilant during the elections.
The meeting came hours after Somali ministry for Security issued statement directing the state’s security ministry to execute its roles and secure the election venues as well as the general security of the region.
The state is expected to hold the state’s presidential election on 5th of next month.
The winner of next month election will replace the state’s former president Sharif Hassan who resigned on Nov. 7 and withdrew from the upcoming election, after he cited widespread interference of the electoral process.
Major contenders for the presidential election include the former head of Somalia’s Spy Agency, Hussein Osman Hussein and Mukhtar Robow, a co-founder of the Al-Shabab. Robow has abandoned Al-Shabaab group.
