MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The leader of Southwest state has vowed to step up offensives to defeat al-Shabaab after the group attacked a military vehicle with a landmine that left at least one person dead.
Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed said the army was in “hot pursuit” of al Shabaab fighters.
“I pledge that many things to deal with problems of Al-Shabaab will be done, Southwest state will take measures to c to end heinous acts of the group,” he said.
The president has directed the local authorities in the state to watch the security of the areas with vigilant eyes.
Mr. Mohamed has extended his condolences to the family and relatives of a local councilor killed in the blast.
On Saturday, landmine explosion in Bardale town killed Falar Liban, a councilor in Bardale and injured six others including the commander of Dervish, identified as Abdullahi.
In a statement posted on its affiliate online media, Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack saying it killed several government soldiers in the blast.
Bardale town just 25km away Baidoa town has been in the control of Somali forces in recently since al-Shabaab vacated the town following heavy offensives by Somali and Au troops.
