NAIROBI (Halbeeg)- South Sudanese President, Salva Kiir and his archenemy, Riek Machar will continue their negotiations in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi.
Their previous talks in Khartoum last month had registered progress on the issues of rehabilitation of the oil fields and security arrangements.
Kiir and Machar will meet today in Nairobi to proceed their talks to end the conflict that ravaged Africa’s youngest nation.
So far the two figures agreed on a number of points following last month’s talks where they appended their signature on a deal comprising several points.
Among the issues the two agreed are: a permanent ceasefire, cantonments for all forces and the deployment of forces by Igad and the African Union to safeguard the ceasefire.

VP Re-Instating
According to accord inked in Entebbe following Uganda brokered talks between the sides, South Sudanese President agreed on Machar to be re-instated in the Vice President of the country.
“After a 10-hour-long meeting, the parties agreed… there will be four vice presidents and Dr. Riek Machar will be reinstated as first vice president,” a statement by Ugandan presidency said.
Machar has been serving as vice president until 2013 when Kiir accused him of plotting a coup against the government of Kiir then violence erupted between the two factions, feeding on brooding ethnic tensions.
They have not met since July 2016, when heavy fighting in the capital Juba signaled the collapse of a 2015 peace deal and Machar fled to South Africa.
