South African President vows to crack down xenophobic attacks

PRETORIA (Halbeeg News) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to take action against the criminals fueling attacks on foreigners in his country.
The xenophobia attacks which took place last week in some parts of South Africa have led to the destruction of immense properties owned foreigners.
South African attackers have also killed at least three Malawians and displaced hundred others.
The attacks took place in the southeastern KwaZulu-Natal province.
In a statement on Monday, A statement from his office said he “condemned violence against foreign nationals in South Africa” and called on police to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
“African development depends on the increased movement of people, goods and services between different countries for all of us to benefit,” Ramaphosa added.
“We will not allow criminals to set back these processes.”
The remarks comes on the heel of calls by African countries whose nationals had been targeted in the attacks.
Several African embassies in South Africa have held talks with South African government over the recent attacks.
South Africa is host to millions of foreign nationals, majority from African continent.
Many of them are economic or political refugees from across Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia and Zimbabwe.
