Hargeisa– (Halbeeg) – The authorities in Somaliland have released a prominent elder, Boqor Osman Aw Mohamud alias Boqor Buur Madow from a jail in Hargeisa.
The elder was freed following a presidential pardon. He was part of 500 prisoners released on a presidential pardon.
In April, a court in Somaliland sentenced Boqor Burmadow to five years in jail.
Burmadow who was arrested by Somaliland forces upon returning from Puntland where he attended the inauguration ceremony of another elder in Armo town.
The court said Burmadow was found guilty of committing three charges leveled against him.
Among the charges was lying about Somaliland’s President, Muse Bihi Abdi.
Early May this year, Activist and poetess Naima Ahmed Qorane has been freed from Prison after receiving a presidential pardon.
Following intervention by elders and Human Rights activists, the president of the breakaway Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi has announced the absolution from the sentence in a statement from his office.
The civil society and Human right groups in the region welcomed the release of the elder.
