HARGEYSA ( Halbeeg News) – The leader of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, has pardoned 14 prisoners of war captured last year during clashes with Puntland.
The spokesperson of Somaliland president has confirmed the release on Monday.
He said the president ordered the release in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan.
The 14 men were taken as prisoners of war by Somaliland security agencies following clashes in the remote town of Tukaraq on May last year.
Puntland and Somaliland often clash over border dispute along with the two administrations.
Somaliland declared independence from greater Somalia in the early 1990s shortly after the civil war a move that is yet to be internationally recognized.
