HARGEYSA ( Halbeeg News) – The President of the self-declared state of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi has called upon the federal government of Somalia restart the talks between Hargeysa and Mogadishu.
Speaking during an event to mark the 28th anniversary since Somaliland declared its succession from the greater Somalia, President Muse Bihi said talks between the two sides supervised by the international party is the only way to end the misunderstanding peacefully.
“Let us share brotherhood, peace, investment and business between our people and end this decade’s long senseless misunderstanding,” President said during his national address on Saturday.
The last talks facilitated by Turkey in Istanbul ended in 2015 without meaningful outcome following conditions set by two sides prior to the actual forum.
Somali Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled said Hargeysa has lost golden opportunity recently after it rejected a reconciliatory visit by President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo spearheaded by Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Unlike other parts of Somalia, Somaliland has enjoyed relative calm for the past three decades with its own currency and elections in place.
