HARGEISA (Halbeeg News) – The leader of breakaway Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi has held a meeting with Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State (SRS), Mustafa Muhumed Omar in the border town of Wajale on Friday.
The discussions between the two leaders largely focused on security and business cooperation.
In a statement, Somaliland leader, Muse Bihi commended the meeting saying they discussed means to enhance the trade between the two sides.
“Our meeting today (Friday) was about invitation we extended to President Mustaf for discussion on how to collaborate to improve security, trade, and cooperation between the two people living on both sides of the border.” President Bihi said.
During the meeting, President Omar extended an apology to Somaliland authority on remarks by the local media saying president Omar accused the breakaway Somaliland of hosting the remnants of former Ethiopian regional government by Abdi Mohamud and allowing them to organised terror attacks from neighboring Somaliland.
“Somaliland is not part of areas we are facing threats of terror. My apologies to the people of Somaliland, I was misquoted by the media,” he said.
The meeting of the leaders is first of its kind since the two came to power in their respective administrations.
